Vitalant and 5 Star Car Wash Partner for a Blood Drive <\/strong><\/p>\n

Fairfield, CA <\/strong>\u2013 Vitalant, formally known as Blood Centers of the Pacific is a local non-profit blood provider, is proud to partner with 5 Star Car Wash in Vacaville for another lifesaving event.<\/p>\n

As seen recently in the news, there have been more mass shootings and blood products are needed more than ever.\u00a0 We delivered over 367 units of blood to hospitals treating shooting victims in El Paso. Donors of all types will be needed to replenish the supply; however O-negative, O-positive and platelets are always used in emergencies. Red blood cells have a shelf life of 42 days and platelets, only 5 days. That\u2019s why it\u2019s vital to for blood donors to give regularly so there\u2019s enough ready and waiting for patients when they need it. It takes 24 to 36 hours to process, test, prepare and ship blood once it\u2019s donated. So it is the blood already on hospital shelves that saves lives. That\u2019s why it\u2019s crucial we constantly replenish the supply so that we\u2019re ready for tragic situations like this.<\/p>\n

\u201cBlood is the most precious gift that anyone can give to another person \u2013 it really is the gift of life.\u201d Steve Pignataro, Vitalant Donor Representative explicates. \u201cWe are beyond grateful for 5 Star Car Wash\u2019s continued support and dedication. Through our partnership, 419 lifesaving units of blood have been donated. Each donation of blood can potentially save 3 lives, 5 Star Car Wash blood drives have possibly saved the lives of 1,257 people!\u201d<\/p>\n

Bill Proestler, owner of 5 Star Car Wash and Detail Center, is passionate about giving blood on a personal level. His daughter Kortney was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma at the age of 18.\u00a0 \u201cShe was treated aggressively at UC Davis in Sacramento for over a year. Her treatment required a bone marrow transplant, radiation and chemotherapy. The whole process required over 80 units of blood.\u00a0 It’s important for us to hold these events at our business to help others survive\u201d Proestler explains.<\/p>\n
